Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma demanded his team's batsmen to step up after the Indian Premier League (IPL) champions were defeated for the second time this season due to another lacklustre display in the middle overs.
Mumbai Indians reached 67-1 in the seventh over of their game against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai but then lost their way, finishing with a paltry 137-9 from their 20 overs.
Rohit's team had successfully defended low totals in their previous two matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. Still, they were unable to do so on Tuesday as Delhi won by six wickets.
Mumbai was cruising at 86-1 against Eoin Morgan's Kolkata before being bowled out for 152. They raised 55 for the opening partnership against Hyderabad but could not capitalise on the fast start and were eventually dismissed for 150-5.
Amit Mishra, an experienced Delhi leg-spinner, took 4-24 on Tuesday, including Rohit and hard-hitting middle-order batsmen Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.
