At the IPL 2021 auction in Chennai on Thursday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) signed Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for Rs 14.25 crore.
Before Virat Kohli's RCB edged past MS Dhoni's CSK at the auction table, there was a fierce bidding war between these two franchises.
In the past, Glenn Maxwell has played for the Delhi Daredevils, the Mumbai Indians, and twice for the Kings XI Punjab. In 2013, he was the only IPL millionaire after being selected for US$ 1 million by Mumbai Indians.
In order to concentrate on the ODI World Cup in England, Maxwell opted out of IPL 2019. In the IPL 2020 auction, after the Kings XI Punjab shelled out Rs 10.75 crore (US$ 1.514 million approx) for him, Glenn Maxwell ended up being the second-most expensive bid.
But, after a lean IPL 2020, he was released by Kings XI Punjab, where he managed only 108 runs and picked 3 wickets in 13 games.
