On Wednesday, Chetan Sharma will host his 1st national selection committee meeting because the rejigged panel is scheduled to pick the squad for the first two Test matches against England, beginning 5th February. The main issue that will be pandering on the selection committee of all-bowlers will be the availability of key bowlers for the important series.
It is understood that the selection committee will announce the squad only for the first two Test matches, to be played in Chennai, because the bowling department suffers from several injury concerns. They will clear COVID-19-related protocols and enter the bio-secure bubble in Ahmedabad before the 3rd Test in case any of the unfit players are certified fit in time for the 3rd Test.
The only reason for the selection committee to smile is that Ishant Sharma, the experienced pacer on the cusp of the 100-Test mark, will be available. During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ishant Sharma proved his match-fitness and is a certainty.
A lowdown on the availability of other main bowlers will be given to the selectors - Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and R. Ashwin - all of them broke down during the Border-Gavaskar Series in Australia.
