Virat Kohli pushed Smith

In the ICC Test rankings for batsmen released on Tuesday, Indian captain Virat Kohli was pushed to 3rd place by Australian batsman Steve Smith.

Kohli’s team-mate, Cheteshwar Pujara, a middle-order batsman, gained two spots to be No. 8.

In the latest rankings, Virat Kohli has 870 points. After the 1st Test, the Indian captain ruled out of the ongoing Australia series to go on paternity leave. On Monday, the day India eked out a fighting draw in the Sydney Test, he and his actor wife Anushka Sharma welcomed their first child, a baby girl.

Steve Smith with 900 points is placed 2nd behind the captain of New Zealand, Kane Williamson (919 points). In the Sydney Test, the Australian had scores of 131 and 81.

In the second Test against Pakistan in Christchurch, Williamson's epic 238 helped him achieve the best ever scoring points by a New Zealand player and consolidate his place at the top of the list.

Cheteshwar Pujara, whose dogged half-centuries (50, 77) helped his team draw the game in the 3rd Test, is ranked No.8, just behind his stand-in skipper, Ajinkya Rahane, who lost one spot. The scores of 36 and 97 by Rishabh Pant helped him gain 19 spots to reach 26th spot.
