Englands vs Sri Lanka: Moeen Ali tests positive for Coronavirus upon arrival in Sri Lanka

The ECB confirmed in a statement, upon arrival at Sri Lanka's Hambantota airport, Moeen Ali, England's all-rounder tested positive for Covid-19. He is going to undergo 10- day self-isolation. Moeen Ali arrived in Sri Lanka on 3rd January before the England’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka and looks likely to miss the 1st Test match.

The ECB said that the England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that Moeen Ali tested positive for Covid-19 following PCR tests administered upon arrival at the airport in Hambantota on 3rd Jan, and he will now undergo a 10-day self-isolation period, in accordance with the quarantine protocol of the Sri Lanka government.

Along with Moeen Ali, the team’s fast bowler Chris Woakes was also asked to self-isolate after being understood to have been a possible close contact with Ali.

The statement further stated that Chris Woakes was considered a potential close contact, and he would undergo a self-isolation period and further testing. On Tuesday morning, the touring party will undergo PCR testing for a 2nd time. At this point, the team will train on Wednesday for the first time.
