Irfan Pathan, the former India all-rounder, expressed surprise at the latest training regimen of MS Dhoni in the UAE ahead of the IPL 2020. Those who are aware of the training pattern of Dhoni know that the former India captain never practises wicket keeping in the nets, but this time around he has made an exception. Chennai Super Kings shared a video where Dhoni was seen keeping wickets as part of his training drill and the reason behind it, Pathan reckons, may be due to his absence from cricket for more than a year.
athan told the media that "We have seen a new visual where we have seen MS Dhoni keeping the wickets. This never happens, this is something new for me because I have been playing cricket with him for so many years, whether it is for the Indian team or in the league withChennai Super Kings, I've never seen him keeping wickets.”
Pathan pointed out that this is because Dhoni hasn't played cricket for a long time, and he guess there was some leg-spinner bowling, so Dhoni might be trying to check the new bowlers, but it's great to see that he is doing wicket keeping during training.
In July of last year, Dhoni last played any form of cricket — the World Cup semi final against New Zealand that ended in a heartbreak for Virat Kohli’s India. On August 15, he announced his retirement from international cricket, but Dhoni is keen to get back playing for Chennai Super Kings, a team he has transformed into one of the best IPL teams of all time. In the opener on 19th September, CSK will play against Mumbai Indians and the responsibilities he will share are even more this time around in the absence of Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina.
