Mexico's Liga MX claims they could sign both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the president of Liga MX side Mazatlan, has claimed that the team has the money to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi this summer.

Messi is a free agent after Barcelona decided not to renew his contract with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner owing to financial restrictions. The 34-year-old superstar is on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. Meanwhile, Juventus has a contract with Ronaldo.

Even though Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are two of the highest-paid players in the sport, Salinas Pliego told fans that the club can pay both of them.

Later, the Mazatlan president launched a Twitter poll, asking fans whether the team should recruit Lionel Messi or Cuauhtemoc Blanco, a politician. When come to the question if the team could afford to recruit Lionel Messi, Salinas Pliego responded that they could also sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Later, Ricardo Salinas Pliego tweeted a photo of the club's stadium, implying that they have already begun selling Lionel Messi jerseys.

It's worth noting that Mazatlan is owned by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, one of Mexico's wealthiest men with a nett worth of over $13 billion. The club merely began operations in June 2020 and finished 14th in their first season.
