Real Madrid beat

Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos' first-half goals helped Real Madrid defeat Valencia 2-0 to take the second position in the 2020-21 La Liga.

Manager Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid was back with a four-man defence for this game. Dani Carvajal returned from injury to the starting lineup, while Toni Kroos came back from his one-game suspension, too.

On the front foot, the hosts began the game and went ahead in the 12th minute. Before turning a shot into the bottom-left corner to put Real Madrid in the lead, Karim Benzema picked up a pass by Kroos.

When Dani Carvajal flagged off the field in the 28th minute, Zidane was forced into the game's first chance and was replaced by Lucas Vazquez.

Nevertheless, three minutes before half-time, Real Madrid doubled their advantage. Vasquez found Toni Kroos in acres of space in the box during a well-worked team pass, and the German striker made a perfect shot from 14 yards.

The 2nd half was played at a slower tempo, but Valencia gave nothing to attacking challenges. When Ferland Mendy put a right-footed finish beyond Jaume Domenech, the home side figured they had tripled their advantage.

Replays, however, showed that in the buildup to the goal, Vinicius Junior was slightly offside.

However, the loss had little impact on the final result, as Los Blancos scored three main points to step up to second in the league standing.
