How would it be to consider a good season for Barcelona?

Barcelona climbed to fifth in La Liga with a critical 2-1 victory over league-leading Real Sociedad. With 12 games played, Barcelona has played three games less than the top four, although one surpasses Atletico Madrid, who is tied for the first place with Real Sociedad.

This is to suggest that the top four is certainly a target that can be reached, but is that enough to qualify for a good season?

Youngsters like Carles Aleñá, Sergiño Dest, Pedri, Óscar Mingueza, Francisco Trincão, and Ronald Araújo have taken part in that win. It's a good season for Barcelona to develop their young players. It would have been even better if Riqui Puig had played, or if Ansu Fati had not been injured.

Of course, the most important thing is winning trophies, but if you can't win trophies, then try to find a replacement for any legendary players during a transition season while retaining UEFA Champions League status is the best they can hope for.

The problem is that Lionel Messi was forced to stay in Barcelona. Barcelona is paying Messi a monster wage, which means they want to win now not slowly rebuild. He wants to win more titles for himself Before Messi retires, and That's a contradiction there.

Of course, it could be debated that Barcelona might struggle too much without Messi and would not even qualify for the Champions League.

It's possible given they're fifth. But it is more challenging to think that the top four and improving players with Messi will count as a good season for Barcelona. But certainly, Messi would not consider that.
